A very old hotel but refurbished to a modern and very comfortable standard, one of my favourite places to eat. Fresh locally prepared food a delight in every way. Eating in either the Bar or Restaurant the experience is the same, great food in a great atmosphere.

Elements Boutique Hotel & Restaurant
I would be remiss if i didn’t mention “Elements” it was a fantastic Italian Restaurant with the most spectacular views over the sea at Widemouth. Sadly suffered a devastating fire earlier this year that completely destroyed the building.
The restaurant survives however in a temporary home at the Beach Hotel in Bude itself. For open air dining and a fantastic venue overlooking Summerleaze Beach it cannot be beaten. The food is as it was at Elements a great restaurant with an Italian theme. I have eaten there several times and can throughly recommend it.

The Widemouth Manor at Widemouth Bay, great local pub with great views across the bay from raised balconies.A modernisation of an old pub but done in beautiful style. Overlooking the classic surfing beach of Widemouth Bay is a great place to sit back and watch the surf or to plan your next days surfing.

The Rising Sun Inn
The Rising Sun at Altarnun is a great Pub with fantastic food having eaten there several times I can definitely recommend it. Good selection of local ales and guest beers one to try.

The Arundell Hotel
The Arundell terms itself as a “Country Sports Hotel” it has a great restaurant that is open to all, this is a fine dining restaurant ideal for special occasions and celebrations. It also has bar dining and a great selection of ales.
A former coaching Inn it is situates about 10 miles from the cottage on the old A30 in the charming village of Lifton just over the border in Devon. An added bonus for the Arundell is that it provides free vehicle charging to guests during their stay, this includes those just dining.

The Old Wainhouse Inn
A great local Pub with a very good menu. The pub is located on the main A39 miles north of the cottage, an easy drive from Penrose Cottage. A comfortable, relaxing and friendly place to visit for both locals and holiday makers alike.
Several of the guests from Penrose have eaten there and recommend it as great pub with a good atmosphere and good “Pub food”.
